I installed the Wayland packages on kubuntu 22.04, and the desktop locks up after the monitor goes to sleep, requiring a reboot. That's with an amd gpu, which is usually pretty good with Wayland. I believe that issue was just fixed upstream, but that might be one reason to not ship it by default.
